Today while working as an RN on the hospital’s Rapid Response Team I was near to an incident in which an oxygen cylinder’s safety valve felt the need to decompress the tank it was attached to. The 02 tank suddenly became very cold to the touch — it was being obedient to the laws of Physics, in this case Boyle’s Law, which says that for gases, as the pressure drops, so also does the temperature. I explained what had happened to a few nurses nearby, who were already kind of impressed with me. Strange for me to mention? No. I’m trying to say that while I’m not a person comfortable with all manner of math-based physics, I do have a nodding familiary with science.
…That is part of the reason I reject the anti-emperical notions of some of contemporary Evangelical thought, and part of why I feel the need to distance myself from my Evangelical brethren. Many of them like to live in a world blessed by scientific endeavor but close their minds to some of the conclusions of science.
